E-mail Installation & Encryption Instructions: Mozilla 1.7.13 for Windows

  1. Open Mozilla Mail. If opening Mail via the browser, go to Window and select Mail & Newsgroups.






  2. Click on Email account and click Next.






  3. Click on IMAP and type in mail.gmu.edu for incoming server. Click Next.





  4. Type in your name and your email address. Click Next.






  5. Type in your user name and click Next.






  6. Type in your preferred account name and click Next.





  7. Verify that your information is correct and click Finish.






  8. From the Edit menu, select Mail & News Groups Accounts Settings.


  9. From the menu on the left, click Server Settings, check the box next to Use secure connection (SSL).

  10. From the menu on the left, click Outgoing Server (SMTP). Select TLS, If available under the Use secure connection heading.


    Please note: If you are accessing your e-mail through an Internet Service Provider (such as Earthlink, Cox, Verizon, etc.), your provider may supply their own outbound mail server (e.g., smtp.east.cox.net) and require that their outbound mail server be used. Please DO NOT change this setting.

  11. Click OK.


  12. Exit and reopen before you use your e-mail program.


  13. If you are using Symantec Antivirus 9 or 10 and it is configured for "Internet E-mail Auto-Protect", It will have to be reconfigured to disable auto-protect internet e-mail. Click here for the instructions to reconfigure the antivirus client.

    To find out what version you are using, click on the "Help" menu, then click on "About Symantec Antivirus" .
