Mac OS X Directions for Dial-Up


Open up Internet Connect. You can open Internet Connect by doing either of the following:

  • Open up a new Finder Window and click on Applications. Click on Internet Connect. Or

  • Open up the Hard Drive, and then open the Application Folder. Click on Internet Connect. Make sure the Configuration Port is set to Modem Port.
  1. Click on the Edit button.

  2. Show Modem Port.

  3. Click on the TCP/IP tab.

  4. For Configure, make sure it says Using PPP.

  5. Click on the PPP tab.

  6. For Service Provider, type GMU PPP.

  7. For Telephone Number, type 703-426-2468, if you are in Northern Virginia. If you are in Prince William County, type in 703-392-7468.

  8. For Alternative Number, leave it blank.

  9. For Account Name, type in your Mason Cluster username (example: jdoe).

  10. It is recommended that you leave the Password field blank, which will cause Internet Connect to prompt you for your password each time you connect. If you prefer not to be prompted for a password, you may enter your Mason Cluster password in this field. Check the Save Password checkbox.

  11. Click the PPP Options button.

  12. Under Session Options, you can leave this section alone.

  13. Under Advanced, Send PPP Echo Packets and Use TCP Header Compression are the only options checked. Click the OK button.

  14. Click the Modem tab.

  15. Make sure that Enable Error Correction and Compression In Modem is checked.

  16. Close the window.

  17. You should be prompted to Save Configuration Changes. Click Save.
