Introduction
to WebCT
What Is WebCT?
WebCT
is an online course management and delivery system used by instructors
to support such activities as presenting instructional materials,
collecting assignments, and holding discussions and chats.
Browser Requirements
Go to
the WebCT Browser Zone web page <http://webct.com/drc_vista/viewpage?name=ask_drc_browser_zone>
and click on WebCT Browser Tuneup to make sure your system has
a browser that is compatible with WebCT 4.1.
Accessing
WebCT and Your WebCT Course
myWebCT Interface
myWebCT
is a portal used to access courses delivered via WebCT. Each Mason
student registered for courses has one myWebCT account. WebCT
ID and password information are posted at <http://webct41.gmu.edu>.
Accessing myWebCT
- Connect
to the Internet.
- Open
a web browser and type the following web address: <http://webct41.gmu.edu>.
- Enter
your email username as your WebCT ID
- Enter
your email password.
- Single
click Log onto WebCT.
Accessing Your Course
- Log
onto WebCT.
- Click
on the link to your course located on the left side of the myWebCT
screen. If the course is not there, the student should contact
the instructor immediately. One of two things may have occurred.
One, the student is not officially registered in the class and
needs to contact the registrar. Two, the instructor has not populated
the course with the recently registered students.
Course Homepage
Each course
has the following features:
- A menu
bar gives you constant access to elements such as myWebCT, Resume
Course, Course Map, and Help.
- The
title of your course.
- Breadcrumbs”
navigational links that show your location within the course.
- A left
hand navigation bar that provides you with quick and easy navigation
around your course.
Logging off from WebCT
There
is a logout link in WebCT. To completely exit from WebCT, click
on the logout link in the bar at the top of WebCT page.
Getting
Help
WebCT Help
Send
your questions about WebCT to webct@gmu.edu.
Once logged onto WebCT, there is a help feature in WebCT. The
Help link is located at the top right-hand side of the screen.
There are also resources online at <http://www.irc.gmu.edu/coursetools/webct>.
Instructor or TA
The instructor
and/or TA can provide assistance. When the instructor and/or TA
are not available and the online help is not sufficient, please
contact webct@gmu.edu.
