Dell Notebook Battery Recall

On August 15th, Dell announced a notebook battery recall for specific batteries affecting multiple Dell notebook models.  Under certain conditions, these batteries have been found to overheat, possibly causing a risk of fire.  Potentially affected batteries were included in these notebook models:  Latitude, Inspiron, Precision, and XPS.

You can go to the Dell Computer web site to locate the model/part number of your battery that may be included in the recall at:  https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/batterymodels.aspx

At the “Security Alert” window, click “Yes” to proceed.   Once you’ve determined that your model number is affected, continue to the bottom of this page and click on “Enter Battery PPID Number” to determine if your specific battery has been recalled.  Once the PPID number(s) have been entered, click the "Submit PPID Number(s)".  This page will list whether your battery needs to be replaced.  If so, you can contact the Support Center at x38870 to have a service request created and a technician from Desktop Support Services will facilitate in getting a replacement or click “Order Replacement Battery”.

If you have a battery that this recall includes and wish to continue to use your notebook until receiving the replacement battery, or batteries, please follow these steps:  Turn off the notebook, eject and remove the battery or batteries, and use the AC power cord to power the computer.  Please note: You must save the recalled battery as it will need to be sent back to Dell.
