Hardware Recommendations for New Purchases:
Laptop/Notebook Systems

Laptop/Notebook systems for administrative and general faculty use should meet the following minimum configuration.

The following are the recommended and supported manufacturers and models for administrative and general faculty systems:

  • Dell - current laptop models
  • Gateway - current laptop models
    current Tablets
  • Toshiba - current laptop models
  • Apple - current laptop models
Laptop/Notebook System Support
Only the above recommended system manufacturers and models will receive Premier Support. Systems that do not appear on the Laptop/Notebook Systems Manufacturers list above are considered Non-Supported. ITU will make the final determination whether it can, or cannot, satisfy the request for service.

Minimum Configuration for Laptop/Notebook Systems

    Windows Systems minimum configuration
    • Pentium IV (or greater) Pentium processor
    • 512Mb RAM
    • current hard drive
    • DVD/CDRW combo drive
    • Operating System: XP Pro
    • Minimum 3-year hardware warranty with Accidental Damage
    • Do Not purchase Microsoft Office products. The University currently has a site license for these products.

    Apple Systems minimum configuration
    • Any iBook or power book
    • 512Mb RAM
    • current hard drive
    • DVD/CDRW combo drive
    • Any display screen size
    • Network Card (built in)
    • Mac OS 10.2
    • 3-year hardware warranty (APP)
    • Apple Maintenance Program for operating system (AMP)
    • Do Not purchase Microsoft Office products. The University currently has a site license for these products.
