Symantec AntiVirus Software

The university has a site license agreement with Symantec for AntiVirus software. This license covers three possible places on which the software may be used:

  • The Institution's machines;
  • A faculty or staff member's personal machine, if their office machine has a valid license;
  • The personal computers of GMU students while enrolled at the University.

GMU computer users are required to utilize current anti-virus software when accessing university network resources.

Keep in mind that the rights to use this software belong to George Mason University, even though you may choose to use it on your personal machine.

There are two ways to acquire Symantec AntiVirus:

  1. Download from the web;
    (Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac OS);
  2. Purchase (paying for media) on CD from Patriot Computers
    (Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS);
