Administered University Software Site Licenses
The University has several Agreements in place to license frequently used Software. The following is a list and description of Software Site licenses administered by the Information Technology Unit. Microsoft Campus Agreement: The Microsoft Campus Agreement licenses the following products for use on all university owned or leased equipment: Microsoft Office
Professional The Campus Agreement also grants "Work At Home Rights" for Office Suite products, and Back Office CALS. "Work At Home Rights" are extended for work related projects but do not allow for personal use. Media may be purchased at a discounted rate through Patriot Computers. Microsoft Select Agreement: The Microsoft Select Agreement allows for the purchase of Microsoft products that are not covered under the Campus Agreement. Through the Select Agreement, Microsoft Licenses, Media and Documentation can be purchased at substantial discounts. The Select Agreement is intended for institutional purchases only, and does not extend to personal use. Licenses, Media and Documentation must be purchased through specific channels in order to meet the terms of the Campus and Select Agreements. In most instances, a unique keycode will be required to install and run Microsoft products covered under these agreements. The University will distribute Licenses, Media and Documentation under both agreements through the Campus Computer Store, Patriot Computers x34100.
SPSS: SPSS is a statistical software application. The University has an agreement with SPSS that allows installation and usage on only university owned or leased equipment in a Windows platform. The University also has a limited license for SPSS-Mac (25-users). Additionally, SPSS is accessible via University's Central System (mason.gmu.edu) in a UNIX environment. Please contact the Support Center x3-8870 for an installation work order. SAS: SAS is a statistical software application. The University has a 300-seat license for SAS on a Windows platform. Several of these seats are allocated to the Student Labs and various university departments. SAS is also accessible on the University's Central System (mason.gmu.edu) in a UNIX environment. SAS can only be installed on GMU owned computers. Please contact the Support Center x3-8870 for an installation work order.
ESRI Products: ESRI is a maker of Geographic Information System (GIS) Software. George Mason University has entered into a cooperative agreement with other Commonwealth University's and Colleges to license ESRI products; notably, The ARC GIS suite of products. The ITU partially funds this license and provides contract administration. Various university departments provide funding for the remaining balance; therefore, use of this license may require a monetary contribution for current and future license terms. ESRI products can only be installed on GMU owned computers. Please contact the Support Center x3-8870 for an installation work order. Symantec
Anti-Virus: The University has an agreement for Symantec's Anti-Virus.
The agreement allows installation on university owned Workstations and
Servers. The license also contains a Student option, which allows Students
to load the software on their personal PC's. The University will distribute
copies of media through the Campus Computer Store, Patriot Computers
x3-4100. At some time
in the future, selected software will be available for download to systems
directly connected to a Novell fileserver.
