Installing JInitiator 1.3.1.21

for Windows Users

Overview

In order to use Banner INB 7.2 for the first time, you will need to install a new version of JInitiator. This installation will not interfere with any other versions of JInitiator you might need to perform your job.

The download and install of this software should happen automatically when using Microsoft Internet Explorer, but accessing the Banner application will take longer the first time.

Note: Microsoft's Internet Explorer is SunGard Higher Education's certified browser for this version of Internet Native Banner. Unexpected results have been reported when other browsers are used. You may use other browsers, but if you are encountering problems, try Internet Explorer before requesting assistance.

Note: For Windows XP service pack 2 users and computers that have a pop-up blocker installed, please make sure that your pop-up blocker is turned off. The pop-up blocker will prevent the automatic download and installation of the software. If you have trouble turning off your pop-up blocker, you can manually install the JInitiator software by using the process below.

Note: Following these instructions will not interfere with any other versions of JInitiator you might need to perform your job.

Installing JInitiator

1.

Open Internet Explorer.

 

2.

Type in the following URL:
http://patriotweb.gmu.edu/admin

This will take you to the Mason Administrative Systems Page.

3.

Under the section titled "> For Windows Users" press the Oracle JInitiator Download Information link.

This will take you to the JInitiator 1.3.1.21 download page.

4.

Click on the Download Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.21 link.

 

5.

Select the option to Save.

6.

Select your Desktop as the directory to save to.

 

7.

Click Save.

 The program will download.

8.

Close all browser windows on your system.

9.
Double click on the jinit.exe icon on your Desktop. After double-clicking, you may be presented with a box containing a Run button. Click on Run to start the installation.
10.
At the Choose Destination Location screen, press the Next button to accept the default location. The installation process with install all the appropriate files.
11.
At the Installation Complete screen, press the OK button. This will close the installation program.
12.
Restart your browser and access INB as usual.
