E-mail Encryption Instructions:
Outlook 2003 for Windows
- Open Outlook 2002 or 2003.
From the Tools menu, select E-mail Accounts.
- Select View or
Change existing e-mail accounts, then click
Next.
- Select the mail.gmu.edu
account, then click Change.
Please note: If you are accessing your e-mail through an Internet Service
Provider (such as Earthlink, Cox, Verizon, etc.), your provider may
supply their own outbound mail server (e.g., smtp.east.cox.net) and
require that their outbound mail server be used. Please DO NOT change
this setting.
- Click More Settings.
- Click on the Advanced
tab. Under the Server Port Numbers heading, place a
check in the box labeled This Server requires an encrypted connection
(SSL) for both the Incoming Server (IMAP)
and Outgoing Server (SMTP) options.
- Click OK,
then click Next, and then
Finish.
- Exit and reopen before
you use your e-mail.
- Please
be sure to do all Microsoft Office updates from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx
(use Internet Explorer) before you setup for encrypted e-mail.
- If
you are using Symantec Antivirus 9 or 10 and it is configured for "Internet
E-mail Auto-Protect", It will have to be reconfigured to disable
auto-protect internet e-mail. Click here
for the instructions to reconfigure the antivirus client.

find out what version you are using, click on the "Help"
menu, then click on "About Symantec Antivirus" .
