Instructions for E-mail Installation & Encryption
| IMPORTANT: If your e-mail program does not use encryption,
you will need to make changes to it
If you are using Symantec Antivirus 9 or 10 and it is configured for "Internet E-mail Auto-Protect", It will have to be reconfigured to disable auto-protect internet e-mail. Click here for the instructions to reconfigure the antivirus client. To find out what version you are using, click on the "Help" menu, then click on "About Symantec Antivirus" . |

list, please select the e-mail program you use to access your name@gmu.edu
e-mail. The instructions provided assume that your e-mail
program is already configured properly to access your

E-mail programs that do not support encryption
Many older e-mail programs do not support
encryption. If you are using one
of these older e-mail programs, or If you do not see your specific e-mail
program listed, you will need to upgrade it to a more recent version.
In some cases, this may require you to purchase the newer version. If you do not want to purchase a newer version
of your e-mail program, you can download a copy of one of the e-mail programs
that Mason provides free-of-charge from this site (http://itusupport.gmu.edu/downloads/index.asp).
Please
note: Most programs will keep your settings and messages when you upgrade your
e-mail program to a more recent version.
However, some messages may get lost.
We strongly encourage you to save important messages to your computer
before you begin the upgrade process.
